Coronation Street

The Hayfield Connection

I remember delivering papers to Pat Phoenix who played Elsie Tanner, she like many other Coronation St actors lived in Little Hayfield and later the creator of the series Tony Warren moved into one of the cottages down Clough lane

Pat did her bit for village life one year she opened the Village Jumble Sale and Fete at St Matthew's Church School, Hayfields largest hall, demolished to make way for the Relief Rd I managed to grab a snap of her at the event

Here she can be seen with Cllr Sam Garside local News agent and village historian.

The Lantern Pike formerly the New Inn has many photographs of Corrie's characters in the corner of the pub opposite the bar, a corner in which Tony Warren is reputed to have written some of the early episodes.

Did local characters give him inspiration? and there were certainly a few in those days, Muriel in her dungarees, Vicky Slack Chair of the Parish Council and many more.

Arthur Lowe son of this Parish also appeared in Coronation St when he played the Draper Leonard Swindley
